Coalition for Marriage Booed out of Birmingham

Birmingham Town Hall was booked for a Tory Coalition for Marriage rally. The venue was far from full – CfM’s Colin Hart claimed they could have filled it three times over, so the many empty spaces were puzzling. Mr Hart said they had left space for Tory delegates, so the only conclusion is that not as many turned up as they would have hoped.

Ann Widdecombe (somebody nobody will marry under any circumstances) introduced as “Strictly Come Dancing Star and former Cabinet minister”, was the star turn. MPs were thin on the ground.

Apart from David Burrowes, who was on the platform, the only other parliamentarian spotted was Gerald Howarth, who was sitting with Amanda Platell of the Daily Mail.

In any case, all attendees were greeted by a vocal band of protesters, who chanted “Tory scum get out of Brum” and other accusations that the Conservative party is made up of chinless bigots.

  1. Linky for coalition for marriage no worky. So no idea what it is. Who gives a toss about marriage anyway? In fact it has only become remotely useful in later years – being responsible for ailing and dead in-laws (my partner did that) – and sorting out ID here in Gib. Most people in the UK thought I was single and just living with some long haired hippy/skinhead depending on haircut at the time. His not mine. I remember Amanda Platell. That photo is either touched up or she has had botox. FFS she is older than me!!
